In the heart of Vatican City, an extraordinary exhibition unveils the rich Christian heritage of Jordan: “Jordan: Dawn of Christianity, taking place at The Vatican’s Palazzo della Cancelleria, Rome, from Jan 31 – Feb 28, 2025. Organized by the Jordanian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in collaboration with the Vatican, this groundbreaking event showcases over 90 rare artifacts that trace the origins and evolution of Christianity in Holy Land Jordan.

Visitors will embark on a journey, starting from the Baptism Site of Jesus in Al-Maghtas, through the Byzantine and Islamic eras, to the present Hashemite period. Key highlights include Mount Nebo, the memorial of Prophet Moses; Machaerus, where John the Baptist was martyred; and the sacred mosaics of Madaba. Many of these treasures are displayed outside Jordan for the first time, offering a profound glimpse into the region’s spiritual significance.

“This exhibition is an open invitation for the world to discover the history of religions in Jordan,” said Lina Annab, Jordanian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities. “It reflects our enduring commitment to peace and coexistence.”

The exhibition also underscores Jordan’s role as a beacon of faith, coinciding with the Vatican’s Jubilee celebrations under the theme "Pilgrimage of Hope." “The Middle East would not be the Middle East without Christians,” remarked Archbishop Giovanni Pietro Dal Toso, Apostolic Nuncio to Jordan. “We do not just have biblical sites where the presence of Christ is confirmed; we have also sites where we can see the presence of the very first Christian communities. This exhibition highlights the deep Christian roots in Jordan, a treasure that belongs to the Arab culture and the world.”

Inviting the world to experience Jordan’s timeless message of peace and spiritual unity, this event offers an extraordinary opportunity to connect with the roots of faith.
